Being offered to take charge and coach these kids was a big honor. I was nervous but yet very excited for this experience that not many have the opportunity to do. I expected the kids to not be interested and not want to participate in learning to play. I thought they would be quick to judge me and the other player and that would affect us trying to teach them. Also I was afraid that I would fail in being a coach that got them interested and wanting them to play this sport.
Why I choose this
What got me so interested in this was the experience being so unique. Not everyone can say they went and taught another culture a new sport. I also picked this because I knew that I would enjoy myself and learn things that I didn't know about myself.
Gains
While I was their I hope to gain new friendships among the players. I also hope to gain some new knowledge of whats its like to be a leader or a head role.
What I expected to learned
I knew ahead of time that we were going on the pueblo during a ritual time. This meant the pueblo was close but we had permission to be on it. So I expected to not learn much. But I hope I could learn a little about the culture and some things about how they live and what its like to live on the pueblo.
Benefits
I thought I would benefit in being able to share my experience with college and other people. With this experience I thought I can use it to help get scholarships. I also thought that doing this would open my mind up to different community service projects.
